Shooting Diary

October

Tuesday 25th – Today was the first day of filming my production. Today I filmed a variety of surfing shots. I tried to use a variety of angles and shot types to give me as much variation and options as possible, when it comes to the editing stage.

For a first day of filming this was basic filming and therefore, helped me get in the right frame of mind and ready to film the bigger scenes within the next week.

Tomorrow I plan to continue my filming and aim to film the core shots of the film.

Wednesday 26th – I filmed the majority of my shots today. This took me four hours to complete. The scenes I shot included:
• Walking down the beach
• Explaining about waxing a board
• Walking towards the sea
• Surfing scenes
• The final scene

This leaves me with just a few more scenes of footage needed. I feel that I have made good progress today and the location has been ideal. I still feel I need to film some more surfing scenes in order to have a variety of shots to use when it comes to editing.

Tomorrow I plan to do some more filming, the filming I hope to capture include the interviews, the first two shots of the film and more surfing footage.

Thursday 27th – Today I was unable to complete the outside footage due to the weather, however this did not stop me filming completely as I was still able to film two of my three interviews. I feel that the interviews went particularly well and I will be able to use them effectively within my production.

Tomorrow I plan to attempt the shots that I couldn’t film today, I’m hoping the weather will allow me to do this as this will be my last chance to get any footage from my current location in Cornwall.

Friday 28th – The weather was a lot better today and luckily I was able to film the needed footage. The footage included me walking past the Fistral Beach sign and the camera zooming into a map of the area (of which the focal point was Fistral Beach).

Due to having more time than originally anticipated I was able to film a lot more surfing then planned. This will enable me to play around with my footage more to get the best shots for my final production.

November

Tuesday 15th – Today I filmed a friend who is a recreational surfer in his free time. I thought this would add more depth to my film due to having contrasting opinions from professionals and from somebody that see’s surfing as a hobby. I thought this would also help speak to my target audience by confirming that you do not have to be a professional to go surfing.

The filming went well and I filmed two angles of this interview so I could play around with the editing.

This is all of my filming completed. Overall I feel that all of my filming went well and I have enough footage to make a successful short film.
